Live Turtles and Fish of the Missouri River Tanks
The Nebraska Game and Parks Fisheries Division will be showing several species of turtles and live fish from the Missouri River. See Blandings turtles, soft shell turtles, snapping turtles, paddlefish, catfish, sturgeon, and many more! Located near the Resource and Education Center, by the fishing pond.

Fly Fishing and Fly Tying Demonstrations
The Cornhusker Fly Fishers and the Siouxland Fly Fishing Association provide hands-on demonstrations on fly casting, tying, equipment, and much more. Located on the riverfront

Fish Cleaning and Cooking Demonstration
Learn how to clean and cook freshwater fish, including panfish, buffalo carp, catfish, and more. Free samples provided.  Located near the Resource and Education Center.

Missouri River Tours
Representatives from the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, National Park Service, and other volunteers will be on hand to provide half-hour boat tours of the Missouri National Recreational River. Learn about the natural and cultural history of one of the last remaining sections of unchannelized Missouri River. Located on the Riverfront.

Bowfishing
Learn the basics of bowfishing.  Located on the fishing pond near the Resource and Education Center.

NGPC Mobile Aquarium

The Nebraska Game and Parks Fisheries Division will be showing live fish from the Missouri River. See paddlefish, catfish, sturgeon, and many more! Located near the Resource and Education Center, by the fishing pond.

Rod & Reel Fishing

The Nebraska Game and Parks Fisheries Division and volunteers will provide hands-on lessons on rod & reel fishing. This is a catch and release program. Located on the fishing pond.

Treasure Dig

Look for treasure buried in the sand.  Learn the techniques used by paleontologists and archeologists.  Learn facts about fossils and artifacts found in Ponca State Park and Nebraska.  A great activity for little kids.  Located on the Riverfront in the Kids Outdoor Discovery Zone.

It’s Alive!

See, touch, and feel a variety of live critters.  Ponca State Park Naturalists will be on hand to provide information and answer questions.  Located on the Riverfront in the Kids Outdoor Discovery Zone.

4-H Projects, Programs, and Experiments

4-H isn’t just about farming anymore. Stop and visit with 4-H members, see their projects and witness some of their programs in action. Members of the 4-H Lego League will be on site demonstrating how they built and programmed a robot.  Extension Educators will conduct experiments with youth. Located on the Riverfront in the Kids Outdoor Discovery Zone.

Campfire Cooking for Kids

Kid’s will learn how to make and eat campfire treats such as S’mores.  Located on the Riverfront in Camp Life.

Make Hot Iron Pies in the 5th Annual Kid’s Cook-Off for ages 5-10.  Check our Food tab for more details.  Located on the Riverfront in the Main Event Tent.

Make Stick Pies in the 5th Annual Kid’s Cook-Off for ages 11-15.  Check our Food tab for more details.  Located on the Riverfront in the Main Event Tent.

Photo opts

Keep your eyes open for photo opportunities throughout Ponca State Park. There will be a life size eagle wingspan, painting of a plesiosaurus, sit on a live horse and many more. Located throughout Ponca State Park.

Tent Demonstration

Guests can learn first-hand different styles for a variety of camping situations.  Backpack camping, tents ranging from one-person to 12-people, glamping, and min pop-up trailers will be on display.  Located in Camp Life on the Riverfront.

Campground Games

Learn how to play a variety of outdoor games; everything from the tried and true game of bean bag toss to some of the latest sensations in outdoor games.  Located in Camp Life on the Riverfront.

Boats and ATVs

A large display of boats and ATVs from regional dealers will be on display.  Located at the Resource and Education Center.

RV Vendors

A wide variety of camping trailers and RVs from regional dealers will be available for viewing.  Located at the Resource and Education Center.

Rock Climbing Wall

A rock climbing wall will be on-hand both days to provide kids and adults with the opportunity to learn the basics of rock climbing.  Located at the Riverfront.

Kayaking

Learn the introductory skills of kayaking.  Located on the Pond by the Resource and Education Center.

Early 1800’s Encampment

A mock 1800’s encampment will have ongoing demonstrations including fire starting, flint knapping, blacksmithing, bow making, black powder muzzleloading, and much more.  Located at G8 outside the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex.

Ropes Obstacle Course

Test your skill on the NEW Ropes Obstacle course.Location TBA.

Big Game Camp

Hear stories that legends are made of. Located near the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex.

Hunting and Fishing Equipment Vendors

A variety of vendors will be available ranging from decoys, guns, fishing equipment, game calls, and much more.  Located throughout Ponca State Park.

Big Game Camp

Come experience the atmosphere of a big game camp.  Visitors will have an opportunity to sit down by the campfire with a cup of coffee and discuss hunting in Nebraska with NGPC wildlife biologists and veteran hunters.  Located near the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex.

Trappers

Learn about Nebraska’s furbearing animals and techniques on trapping from NGPC Wildlife Biologists and veteran trappers.  Located on the Riverfront.

 

Wildlife Management, Private Lands and Public Hunting

Learn how to manage habitat for wildlife on your own land.  Experts answer questions about wildlife viewing opportunities on public lands throughout Nebraska sponsored by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, Pheasants Forever and Nebraska Department of Tourism.

Turkey Talk

Learn about the natural history of the wild turkey along with tips on how to call and hunt them.  Learn about managing for turkey on your property.  Sponsored by the National Wild Turkey Federation.

Archery

Extend your hunting season and the time you spend outdoors.  Learn how to use different types of archery equipment, shoot different types of bows (traditional and modern), and see demonstrations of bow hunting equipment and techniques.  Located in the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex.

Crossbow

Learn some of the facts vs. myths relating to the crossbow while trying your hand with these horizontal bows.  Shooting a crossbow is generally easier to master than shooting a vertical bow, but it still requires skill to achieve the end result.  Located in the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex.

Beginning Shotgun

Novice or first-time shooters are instructed in safe gun handling and muzzle control and have a chance to shoot clay targets in a non-intimidating atmosphere under the supervision of certified Hunter Safety instructor and certified NRA Shotgun instructors.  Slow, going away and incoming targets are the primary focus of this instruction.  Located in the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex.

Demo Shotgun

Gun representatives from Benelli, and Browning/Winchester will provide shooters an opportunity to shoot some of the finest guns on the market.  Located in the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex. 

Muzzleloading

Learn how to shoot these age-old “smoke poles.”  Muzzleloader experts will be on hand to teach the basics of these traditional firearms.  Located in the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex.

Sling-Shot, Tomahawk and Atl-Atl

Age-old shooting activities for all ages.  Located in the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex.

Pellet Gun Range

Youth and adults can shoot at a variety of targets testing their skill level.  Located in the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex.

.22 Long Rifle Range

This hands-on range provides shooters with a great introduction to shooting a modern rifle.  Instructors will provide information on gun safety and rifle shooting techniques.  Rifles for this range are provided by Union County (SD) Pheasants Forever Chapter.  Located in the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex.

Ammunition and equipment for all shooting sports activities is provided by the Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota Friends of the NRA and Pheasants Forever.


Boating Safety

Learn how to safely operate and navigate a boat or personal watercraft.  Learn about boating regulations, equipment, and emergency procedures.

ATV Safety

Learn how to safely operate and navigate an ATV.  Learn about ATV regulations, equipment, and emergency procedures.  Location TBA.

Tools of the Trade

Learn about the latest equipment and methods used by Conservation Officers to enforce hunting, fishing, and park regulations.  Also learn about what it takes to become a conservation officer in Nebraska.  Location TBA.

Find out what outdoor products have been recalled. Located at the Resource and Education Center..
