The 2012 Expo is always the third Saturday in September. For 2012 it is September 15 & 16 from 9 am to 5 pm.
The Expo is held at Ponca State Park, just two miles from Ponca, NE just off Scenic Byway 12 in northeast Nebraska, and approximately 20 miles northwest of Sioux City, IA & 30 miles southeast of Vermillion, SD. Closest airports are Sioux City, IA, Sioux Falls, SD and Omaha, NE.
Click for driving directions.
Admission, parking and all activities are FREE! There are vendors who have items for sale in our marketplace area and lots of food vendors. The State of Nebraska does require that each vehicle entering the park have a valid NE park permit. Permits are available at the Park entry gates the days of the Expo. Permits are $5 per vehicle and annual passes are $25.
The Expo goes on regardless of weather, so it’s best to be prepared for any type of weather. The event is predominantly outdoors so wear comfortable walking shoes and dress appropriately. You may also consider bringing the following items:
• Sunscreen and a hat • Bug spray • Rain coat • Camera • Money to purchase food, drinks or products from the vendors
We are a dog friendly park. Pets do need to be on a 6’ leash as per Nebraska State Park regulations.
After seven years, we think we have the parking down pat. Once inside the park, you will be directed to your parking space. You may have a short walk to a shuttle stop but then you will be shuttled to our main welcome area where you will receive an Expo program and map. From there, you can stay on the main level and enjoy the activities, or take a shuttle to the other destinations within the park. Shuttles will then take you back to the main level shuttle stop. When you are ready to leave, parking lot shuttles will drop you off at the stop closest to your parking spot. Open air shuttles allow our visitors to enjoy the Parks natural beauty.
Unfortunately, we reserve all of the lodging at the Park for our own needs to house the Expo, exhibitors, and sponsors. Many lodging options are available in Sioux City, IA or Vermillion, SD.
The Expo is run by a volunteer advisory board made up of regional representatives from the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, conservation groups and businesses. The Advisory Board members have a common interest and passion for the outdoors and are committed to passing along this heritage to the next generation.
